Do you want to know more about the mysterious Ladin people?
In Vigo there is the Ladino Museum of Fassa, where we strongly advise you to stop. Here you can visit the ethnographic collections of the Institut Cultural Ladin, the result of long and in-depth research on Ladin culture. A very interesting journey in the history of the Ladin community, from prehistory to the present day, through a large number of material testimonies.
Other museums, with their own local sections, are scattered throughout the valley to form a real ethnographic path that will allow you to learn about Ladin culture.
Are you interested in minerals?
In Vigo stands the Monzoni Mineralogical Museum, the most complete private collection of minerals with over 200 varieties of stones and rocks with strange names coming from various areas of the Dolomites. A very interesting visit that offers absolutely comprehensive documentation on the minerals that form our wonderful mountains. There are also many workshops for children.
Discovering the mountain ...
The huts are very simple structures built in stone and wood and used for the shelter of the livestock during the summer. These are very important elements to manage mountain life effectively. There are several in the Val di Fassa.
During a visit to the alpine farm or to the educational farm with your children, you can see how the milk is processed, you can buy some typical products or taste the freshly made cheese and freshly cut speck.
The Terme di Pozza
In Pozza di Fassa there is the Dolomia Thermal Center. Thanks to the water that feeds these spas it is possible to make many therapies with the National Health Service or to follow purely aesthetic treatments for the beauty and well-being of one's body. Around the extraordinary landscape of the Dolomites to enhance the beneficial properties of these waters.
About 12 kilometers from Vigo is Lake Carezza, a wonderful alpine lake known also as the rainbow lake for the fantastic play of colors that forms on the surface of its waters. The lake is not fed by rivers, but by underground springs that descend from the tops of the Latemar. If you want to spend a quiet day, we recommend a walk around the lake. Nearby is the famous Golf Club Carezza, a 9-hole course set in a breathtaking landscape.
The park of Paneveggio
About half an hour's drive from Vigo is the Paneveggio Park, a protected area of ??great naturalistic interest with a wide variety of plants and animals that includes all the most important alpine species. Many excursions are organized every day inside the park, certainly an unmissable experience for those who live in the city and is not used to the colors, aromas and rhythms of the mountain. We recommend the ethnographic trail of the Vanoi, a series of routes that from Caoria go up to 1879 meters up to the mountain hut Vesnòta through a landscape intensely experienced by man, but which today is largely abandoned.
The Sanctuary of Pietralba
At 40 kilometers from our hotel stands the Sanctuary of Pietralba, one of the main religious pilgrimage destinations of Trentino Alto Adige, at a height of 1520 meters between the towns of Nova Ponente and Monte San Pietro. The origins of the sanctuary date back to 1553 when a local farmer, a certain Leonhard Weißensteiner, found an alabaster statue depicting the Pietà. The Virgin Mary appeared to the man who had healed him from his illness. In gratitude, Our Lady asked him to build a church where his faithful could have worshiped her.
And if you want to take the car, we recommend:
